Essential Oils that Eliminate Colds and Flu
By Dorothy | October 5, 2007
A variety of essential oils have been used therapeutically throughout history. Medical applications introduced by those who sell essential oils for medical uses vary from skin treatments to remedies for colds and flu, and are often based on historical use of these oils for these purposes. Interest in essential oils has revived in recent decades with the popularity of aromatherapy, a branch of alternative medicine which claims that the specific aromas carried by essential oils have healing effects. Essential oils have proven to be extremely beneficial. There are even some essential oils that have been known to eliminate colds and flu.
In 2006, during the Thanksgiving holiday season, I had a lot of family visiting. My husband and granddaughter came down with a viral infection. He said that he caught it from our granddaughter. She came home from school feeling awful. She was coughing, sneezing and feverish. All she wanted to do was lay on my husband. By Thanksgiving Day our house was overloaded with family. Our family was there along with my brother and his family which consisted of twenty-three people. My husband was coughing, sneezing and feeling feverish like our granddaughter. During all that time I was never infected. Every night before going to bed I put immupower essential oil blend on my pillow. Immupower can be used to build, fortify and protect the body by supporting its defense mechanism. It does this by raising the frequency of the immune system which helps you overcome the flu, colds, respiratory problems and infections. It can be worn and diffused in your home, especially during cold and flu season.
To protect yourself from our chemical environment, especially during the cold and flu season, diffuse Immupower throughout the air in the morning and in the evening. Then apply Thieves essential oil to your feet. Thieves is an essential oil blend that can be used alternately with immupower. This blend of oils help protect the body from the onset of flu and colds. Thieves may also help with sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, coughs, strep, sore throats, cold sores and canker sores. Thieves is also effective for dealing with various problems related to the immune system.
In order to get similar to what I have experienced the oils must be pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils. Anything less will probably not produce the same results. Both immupower and thieves essential oils can cause irritation to sensitive skin. A mixing oil is available that can be used to dilute the oils to prevent irritation. Essential oils need to be protected from sunlight which can quickly damage them. Purchase them in glass bottles because essential oils corrupt plastics quickly.

Essential Oils and Their Uses
By Dorothy | September 12, 2007
The use of essential oils dates as far back as ancient times. Their broad variety of therapeutic, medicinal and cooking uses has ensured their continuous reputation. Several pounds of plant material are required to extract one ounce of essential oil. Essential oils have different uses. Now knowing this, your first step should always be deciding which oil will best suit your needs. I, myself, have used many essentials oils for a number of years and found them to be very beneficial. The oil I have utilized most recently has given amazing results. This oil is cypress; which is a single oil with multiple uses.
When I returned from a family trip I began dealing with lower back pain. I assumed it came from sleeping on a bed with not much support. My husband rubbed my back with cypress oil before going to bed that night. The next morning I was amazed when the pain completely left. On a different occasion, more recently, my left knee was swollen and in throbbing pain and there was nothing I had done to cause the pain. Along with my knee, my right foot had begun to bother me. The pain was so intense until it would wake me up and I would have to find a comfortable position to place my foot so that I could get rest.
I finally decided to use cypress oil on both my knee and my foot before going to bed. After applying the oil, I was able to sleep through the night without pain and when I awoke the swelling in my knee was gone. I strongly recommend the essential oils to anyone suffering with pain.
I have experienced similar results using some of the other essential oils. I use them to help me sleep as well as relieve anxiety, stress and tension. I have also used essential oils with my granddaughter to help alleviate colds and coughs. As I stated before, essential oils are beneficial and have many uses. In order to obtain similar results as those that I have experienced the oils must be pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils. Anything less will probably not produce the same results and in some cases, may be extremely toxic. If you are looking for an alternative means to find relief and would like more information on essential oils and their uses, especially cypress, Click Here. However, this is only for people who are really interested in essential oils and the benefits that they provide.

What are Essential Oils? (Part 2)
By Dorothy | August 31, 2007
How do these oils work? Well, plant fragrances are made of nature’s ancient molecules. Which are complex substances whose structure allows them to pass easily and through our skin, and through the cell membranes of every cell in our bodies. We breathe them in and instantly, as they touch the brain, the molecules of essential oils enliven neurons, inspire emotions, awaken immune response, stimulate hormones, which can then enhance energy, digestion, mental clarity, body temperature, circulation, and the feeling of being connected to nature.
One drop of an essential oil can carry as powerful a message as a bouquet of flowers. One drop can carry as bio-chemically complex a message as a food or a medicine:
It can stimulate our immune activity, open our lungs, enhance our hearing, ease tired and achy muscles, improve flexibility and so much more!
It’s really important to understand that the safety and life-changing effects of essential oils are dependent entirely on their purity and their quality. Generally speaking, essential oils that you find in department stores, and even health food stores, are of uncertain quality at best. That’s why Young Living has made its mission to provide you with the very best, independently tested essential oils.

What are Essential Oils?
By Dorothy | August 30, 2007
Hello everyone this is my introductory blog concerning oil and such. Before I begin writing about different types of oil, I wanted to give a little history on the topic.
From the earliest days on earth, people have been using plants to heal, uplift, and empower their lives. Why are fragrances, or aromas, so powerful? Why are they sought after by people all over the world?
Is it possible that these fragrances are not only beautiful but also life changing?
The answer appears not only in the stories of our ancestors, but in the literature of science as well. Modern day discoveries help us to understand our need for plants as something more than just food, decoration and shelter. Because of laboratory research, we now know something about the chemistry and action of plant fragrances, which come from the unique and mysterious aromatic liquids hidden in various parts of plants–their leaves, petals, roots, seeds, bark, stem, and even fruit.
These aromatic liquids are called “essential oils” now, but they were called “precious oils” and “sacred oils” in ancient times.
They were used anciently not only for physical well-being, longevity, beauty, courage, wealth and political power, but for sacred purposes in temples, religious rituals, and at births and deaths.
Typically, essential oils are very light to the touch (not greasy like cooking oil) and evaporate readily, releasing their aromas into the air.
Their function in nature is to keep plants healthy, free of infection, to repel harmful insects, and to communicate–to each other, to insects, to animals, and to us! As it turns out, the way they affect us is a lot like the way they affect plants, acting on our immune systems, our muscles, internal organs, skin and circulation, and even our emotions, sometimes all at once!
I’ll have more information to connect to this subject tomorrow!
