I started putting pure lavender oil (neat) on a tissue and have been inhaling this daily for a few weeks now. Around the time I started doing this I developed some cold symptoms, mainly runny nose and a bit sinusy. I have noticed that when I snif the lavender it seems to makes my nose run. Can essential oils do this – or do I just have a coincidential cold?

Well, if your cold ends when you are using this rubbish, the quacks would claim it was a result of using the oils.
So sure, by the quacks’ own logic, if you develop a cold while using them, the oils must be to blame for it.
yes if not used properly the can cause you problems i suggest you yahoo search or google a site to explain the uses and proper amounts and which oils are used for what if you are interested in this type of therapy.I am a Natural Health Consultant and this is one aera we studied ampung many other natural therapys!http://www.ehow.com/how_7930_essential-oils.html?ref=fuel&utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=ssp&utm_campaign=yssp_art just type essential oils and how to use then into the yahoo search box and it will bring up a page with many sites to learn about essential oils. Good Luck and hope this helps
are you allergic to lavender?? quit doing this and see if you notice a change.
You need to be very cautious of the essential oils you purchase and who you purchase from! Many essentials in the health food stores or others are tainted or have ‘toxins’ in them.
As far as I know, I have not experience Lavender as an expectorant (or decongestant). I would expect this to happen with Eucalyptus or a “minty” oil.
Most times when you have a “reaction” to a quality oil (I get mine from a distillery for my work.); it is the toxins leaving your body, unless you truly have an allergy to the plant itself (many are allergic to eucalyptus.).
I hope this helps you!
A cold virus takes a few days, somewhere between 10-15 days, to incubate and then show symptoms. It is just pure coincidence that symptoms began showing when you started using Lavender.
Lavender is used for a variety of illnesses and symptoms, one of which is lymph congestion. When a person has a cold, their lymph nodes become clogged, which takes about 10-15 days. When they are full and can’t take anymore, then the flowing of snot begins! lol Continue to use lavender as that will help keep your sinus passages more clear to prevent the sore throat that might appear.
