The burners or warmers are best used with essential oils that are very thick or with oils that are very inexpensive. Heat can be damaging to essential oils, the unglazed or soapstone ones tend to be porous and get messy and are best used for same oil all the time because you can't clean them completely. There are lots of products out there that are to use with essential oils and get them into the air, just think about what the mechanism is that does that. The best way to disperse essential oils into a room is with a diffusor or nebulizer, these use air rather than heat to diffuse the oil. With these you are able to use a few mls of oil at a time.
Spreading out into the room should be based on the diffusor and permanence of the smell is based on some chemistry that I won't go into here, some scents will seem to last longer, but the reality is that there is no fixative added to pure essential oils and the reason you smell them at all is that they are volatile, the same mechanics that allows you to smell them continue until there is nothing left to be smelled.
Emily's Oils & Essentials sells diffusors for the home for $19 to $144, smaller ones for the car and to wear as well.
